I’m Emma – a Kiwi gal who currently resides in one of best cities in the world – Melbourne, Australia.
I’ve always had a strong passion for travel and I can pinpoint where it started.
I will always remember the Christmas when my Uncle & Aunty gifted me an atlas. They had tabbed the areas they were travelling on their next overseas trip so I could follow along. I remember receiving postcards from each destination which I, oh so carefully, filed away in that particular page within the atlas.
I can definitely thank my Uncle & Aunty for my travel passion – they helped me with my travel knowledge before I had even had time to grow up and leave the country.
I would often stay with them when they were home, and I recall going for many walks with my Uncle while he quizzed me on my geographical knowledge.
He gave me some handy tips on how to remember some of them too! It’s become a bit of a family joke now.
… “What’s the capital of Canada? Think of an animal…” “Ottawa!!!”.
… “What’s the capital of the Philippines? Think of ice-cream…” “Manila like Vanilla Ice Cream”.
Many years later, and several countries already explored, I decided to start Her Suitcase so I could share my knowledge and passion with the internet world. I wanted to be able to write about what I love, share my adventures with the world and share the photographic memories with everyone.
For me, travel is all about discovering new places or rediscovering some of your already travelled favourites. It’s starting new adventures as you make your way through towns, cities, and countries.
Travel allows you to learn about yourself, not just the destination and culture you are exploring. It’s how most of us become who we are today.
Everyone travels differently and that’s okay – we’re not all the same, experiences mean different things to everyone and it is what makes us who we are.
“I am not the same, having seen the moon shine on the other side of the world.”
– Mary Anne Radmacher
Where am I travelling to next?
UK & Ireland + Paris & Amsterdam in July/August 2018!
Thank you for visiting Her Suitcase – I hope you’ve enjoyed yourself! x
